When we talk about plastic pollution in the ocean and its impact on marine animals, we quickly think of sea turtles choking on plastic bags. But this affects many more species, especially when these plastics are small enough to be ingested and mistaken for food. This is the case, for example, with zooplankton, fish, and filter-feeding organisms (oysters, mussels, etc.), or indirectly, when a marine animal consumes prey that is already contaminated.

The composition shown here playfully recreates a healthy, abundantly populated, and diverse seafloor. If we continue our current pattern of overconsumption, there is no doubt that these magnificent, lush scenes that the oceans offer us will eventually disappear.
